The Klotild Palace, one of Budapest's most famous historical buildings, has gained a new function and identity with the opening of the St. Regis Budapest. The aim of the project was to create a world-class luxury hotel that appropriately connects the building's turn-of-the-century heritage with the St. Regis brand's refined, timeless elegance.
The interior design concept is by the French studio Moinard Bétaille, which created a contemporary luxury environment while respecting the historical context. Local cultural and artisanal traditions played a prominent role in the design, subtly integrating into the visual world of the international hotel brand. Details referencing the Zsolnay porcelain heritage, unique light fixtures, handcrafted surfaces, and exclusive material usage all contribute to the hotel's unique character.
In the central spaces of the building, striking installations and uniquely designed artistic elements appear. The metal mesh installation woven with brass leaf branches, located in the five-story atrium, along with the softly illuminated terrazzo flooring in the lift lobbies, create a memorable spatial experience that emphasizes both the exclusivity of the St. Regis brand and the uniqueness of the historical environment.
The design of nearly one hundred guest rooms presented a special design challenge.
Due to the varying characteristics of the historical building, each room type required a unique adaptation, so the project was realized not as a simple standardized hotel design, but as a series of unique responses to the building's character. The unique furniture, textiles, light fixtures, and artistic elements present in the rooms create a cohesive yet diverse guest experience.
The design of the wellness and spa area draws inspiration from Budapest's rich bathing culture. The arched openings, porcelain details, and carefully composed surfaces evoke the atmosphere of historical bath architecture while meeting the expectations of contemporary luxury wellness spaces.
The project was implemented in a Design & Build model, with DVM responsible for general planning and integrated execution. The special challenge of the execution was adapting to the characteristics of the historical building, adapting the extremely detailed international design concept, and coordinating a large number of custom-made elements. Continuous coordination between the designer's vision and on-site implementation ensured that the historical environment and contemporary luxury came together in a unified, high-quality final result.
The realized St. Regis Budapest is not just a luxury hotel, but an architectural and interior design experience that unites historical heritage, artisanal quality, and the highest standards of international hospitality in a single coherent system.
