World Environment Day has been observed since 1972 to raise awareness of the effects of pollution and to encourage awareness and action to protect the environment. Each year, the United Nations identifies a central theme, which many companies, communities and governments get behind to support the environmental cause through their programmes and activities.
This year’s theme is reducing plastic pollution: the world produces around 400 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, only 9% of which is recycled, and much of it ends up in uncontrolled landfills or in the aquatic environment. However, by adopting a circular approach – through more conscious use and recycling – we could significantly reduce the amount of waste and mitigate the harmful effects of plastic pollution.
Through the selective collection and recycling of demolition and construction waste, we contribute to reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular approach.
