Radisson Blu Béke Hotel Budapest
The comprehensive renovation of the more than 110-year-old Radisson Blu Béke Hotel brought together historic heritage and the expectations of contemporary hospitality within one of Budapest’s iconic hotel buildings.
The comprehensive renewal of one of Budapest’s most recognisable buildings on the Grand Boulevard aimed to create a modern hotel of international standard that respects the building’s more than century-long history, while meeting the expectations of 21st-century guest experience and operation. The renovation of the Radisson Blu Béke Hotel**** Superior was based on aligning the preservation of architectural heritage with the requirements of contemporary hospitality.
Originally opened as the Britannia Hotel, the building has been a defining element of Budapest’s cityscape for more than 110 years. Throughout its history, it became known on several occasions for applying solutions ahead of its time, making the balance between innovation and tradition a key consideration during the renovation as well. Particular attention was paid during the design process to the artistic values and historic details found within the building, whose restoration and integration into a renewed environment became one of the defining aspects of the project.
During the renewal, the hotel’s communal areas, guest rooms and service functions were all modernised. The new interior design concept creates a clean and timeless appearance that both evokes the building’s historic character and provides guests with a modern, high-quality environment. Improving the guest experience, reorganising functional connections and meeting the brand requirements set by the international hotel chain all played a central role in the renovation.
DVM participated in the construction works of the project, which represented a significant professional challenge due to the complexity of the building, the high quality expectations and the multi-phase nature of the works. Over the nearly five-year implementation period, the team had to coordinate the preservation of historic values, the creation of modern hotel functions and compliance with international brand standards. Construction took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in significant logistical and organisational challenges; nevertheless, the project was successfully and comprehensively completed.
Today, the Radisson Blu Béke Hotel operates as a contemporary urban hotel that carries forward the legacy of the historic Britannia Hotel in a fitting manner. As a result of the renovation, the building both preserves the values of its past and offers a modern guest experience of international standard in one of Budapest’s busiest and best-known urban environments.
