The Rebirth of the Drechsler Palace: The Drechsler Palace at 25 Andrássy Avenue was designed in 1883 by Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos. The Neo-Renaissance building was completed in 1886. After years of neglect, it was reborn as the W Budapest Hotel, operated by Marriott.
UNESCO World Heritage and Monument Protection: The 151-room, five-star hotel on the UNESCO World Heritage site was restored under strict monument protection guidelines. Thousands of stucco and stone decorative elements were returned to their original positions by stone carvers and restorers. Two ornamental towers destroyed in previous decades were also reconstructed.
Innovative Glass Canopy: An architectural and construction feat: the glass canopy over the inner courtyard. For the first time in Hungary, innovative technology was used to fix double-curved glass surfaces to the courtyard façade while preserving the saddle form. A flexible rod-chain system supports the 64-element glass unit, creating an airy, floating effect.
